Antonio Conte aide reveals how close Chelsea were to signing Edin Dzeko in January

Edin Dzeko was never really interested in joining Chelsea in January, according to Antonio Conte's agent Federico Pastorello.

Th 31-year-old was just one of the targets that the Blues were after in the last transfer window as Conte looked to bring in an experienced striker to allow Michy Batshuayi go out on loan.


Several names, such as Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch and even Ashley Barnes were all linked with the club, however it was Dzeko that seemed pretty close to actually happening.

Roma and Chelsea had reportedly agreed a deal for the Bosnian international, however personal terms could not be agreed due to the fact that the player wanted a deal up until the end of the 2019/20 season, which would have broken Chelsea's policy of not giving 30 year olds more than a year contract.

However, Pastorello insists that Emerson Palmieri will be a top signing for Chelsea, however that Dzeko was never really interested in making the switch back to the Premier League.

"Emerson Palmieri to Chelsea was the best move made by a Premier League club last month, and I am not just saying that because I played a leading role in negotiations. He will be a nice surprise," Pastorello told Tuttosport.


"Džeko? He gave the impression several times that he did not really want to join Chelsea. Given the amount of money that was involved, this was not an issue."
