Holger Rune tells Ekstra Bladet.
- In the locker room, his team and him must pass me. The team is actually very sweet, but then he just goes straight to me and shouts "JAAAA" right up in my head, says the Dane.
- I was just thinking: What the hell are you doing? You do not do that. You can cheer on the field all you want and be happy. I do that myself when I win. But that's such a bad style. However, have a little respect.
After the showdown, 23-year-old Casper Ruud had also stated to the press that young Holger Rune should 'grow up' - that is, see growing up - with reference to Holger Rune's many clear frustrations during the match.
But in Holger Rune's eyes, the situation is actually quite the opposite. And it's not solely due to the episode in the locker room.
For also on the field, Casper Ruud, who has been on the ATP tour since 2015 and is currently number eight in the world, showed extremely unsportsmanlike behavior, the Dane reveals.
- It all starts when I ask the judge to look for a mark. It's very close to the line and I can not see if it's inside or out. Then he says, 'Do you have to check every mark?' (you must have all brands checked, ed.). And this is the first time I ask the judge for it, says Holger Rune and continues:
- Then I tell him not to talk to me. We're in the middle of a tennis match? It belongs nowhere. But at the turn of the page, he goes on to say 'you do not talk to people like this' (this is not how you talk to people, ed.). And there I just repeat that he should not talk to me.
There was therefore also a reason why Holger Rune wanted to leave Casper Ruud very quickly, as they subsequently had to say thank you for the match, he explains.
- I did not want to give him a hug after. He got a highfive and then I just had to get away from him. He was so unsportsmanlike during the match and talked to me over and over again.
Holger Rune therefore feels that Casper Ruud was condescending towards him both on the pitch and after the match - and he has a hard time understanding that.
- It's a bit ambivalent, because I've said all along that I have an insane amount of respect for him and that he's an excellent gravel player, so I do not understand where it's coming from? Should I lie down on my knees and say congratulations to him?
- 99 percent of the players on the tour have respect for me, and then there is just him. I probably live with that, Holger Rune concludes.
