Manchester United chief David Gill has hinted the club hope to keep Gary Neville involved.
The former United fullback announced his retirement yesterday.
"Gary has been a great servant to the club and we thank him for his loyalty and his contribution to the tremendous success we have enjoyed in his playing time here," Gill said.
"I know from my many dealings with him over the years he always had the club's best interests at heart.
"So whilst this illustrious chapter in his career has finished, his experience, commitment and energy will ensure he will continue to play a part in the life of the club, whether on the coaching or the commercial side."
Sky Sports are immediately moving for retired Manchester United fullback Gary Neville.
The Telegraph says a move into broadcasting with Sky plus the possibility of a coaching role at United, following Sir Alex Ferguson’s admission that he wants Neville to “stay here” at Old Trafford, are both on the table for the former England defender.
Having enjoyed brief stints in the media with MUTV and ITV during the 2002 World Cup, Neville is understood to be at the top of Sky’s wanted list to replace Andy Gray, who was sacked last week.
First of all, however, Neville will be offered the chance to wave farewell to United supporters prior to the Manchester derby against City next week. A testimonial against yet-to-be decided opponents is planned for the summer.
