Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Diogo Jota after completing the capture of Thiago Alcântara from Bayern Munich.
Talks between Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers are at an advanced stage and the fee for the 23-year-old Portugal forward is expected to be more than £35 million.
The move to sell Jota comes with Wolves negotiating a deal for the Liverpool youngster Ki-Jana Hoever. The 18-year-old Dutch defender is valued at more than £10 million and the two transfers would be separate.
Jota was omitted from the Wolves squad for the Carabao Cup defeat by Stoke City on Thursday night, having been an unused substitute for the win over Sheffield United in the Premier League on Monday.
Nuno Espírito Santo, the Wolves head coach, was tightlipped about Jota’s absence, saying: “He wasn’t available, these are decisions we have to make. We have to prepare the squad.”
However, it has emerged that Liverpool are keen to sign Jota as Jürgen Klopp looks to strengthen his options in attack during what will be a punishing campaign.
Jota cost Wolves about £12.8 million when turning a season-long loan move from Atletico Madrid into a permanent deal in July 2018. He has scored 26 goals in 85 appearances for Wolves and his pace and versatility in attack would make him well suited to how Klopp wants to play.
Liverpool have been looking to bolster their attacking triumvirate of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané and had considered Watford’s Ismaïla Sarr among others.
The departure of Hoever, 18, would help offset the expenditure and Rhian Brewster, 20, is also wanted by Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Brighton & Hove Albion among others. Liverpool will not consider a season-long loan deal for Brewster and could seek between £20-25 million for him.
The impending arrival of Jota may also mean that Divock Origi, the reserve striker, considers his future.
After a summer in which they had only previously signed Kostas Tsimikas, the left back, from Olympiacos for £11.75 million, Liverpool’s spending has increased with the deal for Thiago from Bayern for an initial £20 million confirmed by the club.
The Spain international will wear the No 6 jersey and has signed a four-year contract.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Thiago, 29. “I was waiting for this moment for a long time and I am very happy to be here. When the years are passing, you are trying to win as much as you can – and when you win, you want to win more.
“I think this club describes what I am as well; I want to achieve all of the goals, win as many trophies as possible.”
Thiago was scheduled to train with his team-mates for the first time this afternoon as he waits to discover whether he will be eligible for Sunday’s game away to Chelsea.
Liverpool filed the paperwork with the Premier League before today’s noon deadline and must now receive clearance.
“I know all the people at Bayern wanted to keep him desperately, that’s normal and understandable because he played an important role in the last season as well,” Klopp said.
“He just was ready for a new challenge and he decided for us. And that’s a compliment because he knows the Premier League is tough but he wants to come to the Premier League; he knows we have a good team but he wants to come to this team.
“When we spoke about all the players, he respects them all massively. We played against him when we played Munich in the Champions League two years ago, so he knows what kind of machine we can be and he wanted to be part of that. It is about the club, it’s about the team, that he wanted to join us. That’s really cool.”

A, realno, Mbappe kad dođe i još jedan štoper neće nam trebati više ništa.
Možda Wernera dovesti kad propadne u Chelseaju

Liverpool have reached an agreement on personal terms with Diogo Jota after quick contacts today with his agent Jorge Mendes. He’s ready to sign until June 2025. Negotiation progressing between #LFC and Wolves to complete the agreement [final fee could be around €43m].
Diogo Jota set to join Liverpool on a five-year deal for an initial £41m. Could rise to £45m (appearances, PL & UCL success). Wolves accepted just shy of 10% of the guaranteed fee in the next 12 months - offset by defender Ki-Jana Hoever's £13.5m sale.

Kad odbijemo Hoevera Jota izadje oko 30 miliona funti.
