This season, Durmishaj has been in excellent form with Panionios, registering 11 goals in 28 matches across both the Super League and Greek Cup. Although he represented Albania at U21 level, the 22-year-old striker is eligible to play for Greece as a senior international, and Ethniki Omada boss Anastasiadis revealed that he has been in contact with Durmishaj concerning the national team:
“I often attend Panionios matches, and a few days ago, I told Durmishaj that we are interested in calling him up to the senior Greek national team. He said to us that he wants to play for Greece. The required procedures will now be undertaken by Angelos Basinas, and given the player’s desire, I think that we will have a happy ending to this story.”
Durmishaj’s impressive showings in Nea Smyrni have attracted the attention of Piraeus giants Olympiacos. According to reports in the media, Durmishaj has already expressed his wish to join the Thrylos, and all that remains is for Olympiacos and Panionios to agree on a transfer fee. Durmishaj is under contract at Panionios until the completion of the 2019/2020 season, but at the moment, all signs are pointing towards the player transferring to Olympiacos in the upcoming summer.
